What is the Theme of the Poem, "Ode to
Evening"?
Answer: "Ode to Evening" is
a nature poem, one of those often considered an introduction to the romantic-
movement. William Collins, in his poem “Ode to Evening” promotes scenic nature.
He slowly constructs Evening as an allegorical figure with many attributes. It
is in contrast to the neoclassical emphasis upon human nature. In the section
describing the rain, storm, and mountain portrait an impressive scenery. And
the view from hut creates superb images at the end of the poem. This poem
presents neither day nor night. And also, this poem is neither fully
pre-romantic nor conventionally neoclassical. It is transitional.
