Why do we blow out candles on birthday cakes?
![]() |
The biblical Magi, the three wise men who visited Jesus on his birth and
they invented the system to “give and receive” gifts on a birthday. These
persons brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh for the newborn Baby. From this
date the tradition, “give & receive of gifts” is carrying out till today.
To celebrate this occasion people copied back to the Ancient Greeks again. On
birthday, Ancient Greeks people baked round honey cakes to symbolize the moon
and at the top, they put candles as a special way to pay tribute to the moon
goddess, Artemis. They burned candles as offerings to their gods and goddesses.
Ablaze candles were added to represent the reflected moonlight. Well keeping
candles on the round cake symbolized the moon was the traditional superstition of
Ancient Greek. They believed that blowing the candles them off, while making a
wish was considered that the smoke of the candles would carry their wishes to
their gods. So, on a birthday, we blow candles’ smoke out.
