William Wordsworth Poem | Solitary Reaper | Question-Answer | Facexor

Question: “The music in my heart I bore, Long after it was heard no more.”

What music is referred to here? Why was it heard no more?

How did the poet bear the music in his heart?

highland girl

Answer: The music of the highland girl who was reaping and singing alone in a field is referred to here.

The girl was still singing. But the poet could not stand forever. He left the valley, mounted up the hill, and went to the other side of the hill. So he could no longer hear the music.

The poet's mind absorbed the sweetly-sad appeal of the song.

It found a permanent place in his memory. So it was recorded within his heart, though his physical ears could not hear the song directly.

Question: "Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow”

What are the plaintive numbers'? Why do they appear 'plaintive' to the poet?

Answer: The 'plaintive numbers’ are the melancholy song sung by the lonely highland girl working in the field in a deep valley.

They appear plaintive to the poet as the song sung by the girl has a sad note in it.
