Describe the valley and its surroundings | Asleep In The Valley | Arthur Rimbaud | facexor

Question: Describe the valley and its surroundings where the soldier is lying.

Asleep In The Valley

Answer: The poem is written like a telescope which focuses on different parts of the valley and zooms in on the details. The poet concentrates on the picturesque view of the valley, from where he goes to the mountains and then the body of the wounded-soldier lying in the open sky. A small stream is flowing through the valley. There are different kinds of flowers and shrubs in that valley. He zooms in on the soldier's legs which are in the flower. His pillow is made of ferns. The poet waits for the last line of the poem that the soldier is dead. His delay in depicting the death of Slider may have exacerbated the effect and left readers stunned by the negative effects of the
war.
