Gift of the Magi a deep love story O Henry question and answer-facexor

"A mathematician or a wit would give you the wrong answer."

What was the question? What answer might be wrong and why?

Jim and Della
Jim and Della

Answer: The above extraction has been taken from the story; “The Gift of the Magi”, which is written by Olivier Henry. The question was about the difference between eight dollars a week and a million a year. In other words, the question was whether happiness depends on money or not.
A mathematician is concerned with figures. He does not consider the spiritual value of anything. An intelligent man also generally assesses everything with his reason and not with feeling or emotion. So, according to them, there is indeed a great difference between eight dollars a week and a million a year. Hence they will consider the acts of Della and Jim utterly foolish. For, they sacrificed their valuable possessions for a foolish sentiment. But according to the writer, such an assessment is wrong. And love is much more valuable than any material wealth which cannot bring the happiness that love does.
